Progress Report: 8/14/2023
So far--have written 5/17 scenes for the Enya route, with now ~12 to go (though this is liable to change). 0/?? scenes for Thamarai. There are uhh approximately 6 major illustrations to do for each route + the sprites for the main characters + backgrounds, as well as actually designing and drawing things like textboxes and choice buttons.
- Worked out sound effects, music, etc.
- Worked a bit on graphics: made mockups of text boxes, changed a lot of fonts and sizing, drew a couple CG designs
For a while the project was dragging and I was unsure where I was going with it and what I wanted to do, and it's been disorienting to have to work out how to write dialogue when in the sense of it having to be coded, but adding music and SFX has really brought to light a lot of the things that I have always loved about visual novels and that I am very much loving about this one!!! I am so hyped for this I genuinely have gotten so excited that the writing feels so much easier now. I've figured out (generally) how to code these things and it's been a huge relief to finally be able to focus on things like dialogue now. And the characters are coming to life in that sense, too! It's so much fun to write this thing. I love these characters a lot.
Obviously there is still a lot to do re: coding and writing and art--I have a few things I need to figure out w the coding (namely how to create a screen... and maybe organize the script SOMEhow) and there are entire arcs i need to write, in addition to just. not having the art done yet. but also I HAVE made significant progress on this and I can see the checkpoint coming up, so even if it's so far rough and unpolished, I'm already incredibly proud of how far I've gotten since I decided to go in this direction with Enya and Thamarai.
As for what I intend to work on next:
- Finishing Enya's arc
- Figuring out button sound effects
- Fixing some other graphics things
- Coding a gallery screen for CGs
I haven't had access to my art equipment lmao so all of the final hand-drawn visuals are on the backburner, but once I do it's all over for you people
